Paolo Fumagalli was born in Sassari (Sardinia) in 1960. Currently, he lives in Florence. He began painting self-taught and he continued his training attending the studies of great masters. He began to exhibit in 1981, at the age of twenty.

His painting is strong but at the same time essential. His color palette is warm and bright, from which Fumagalli gets reflections and lights, shadows and spaces, movement and life. The graphic immediacy gives constructive and chromatic force that translates into a penetrating expressive power. That testifies how the artist depicts on the canvas what he has previously painted on the blackboard of his soul. His painting demonstrates how many feelings, surges, escapes, leaps the brush can make before defining a work.

A dynamic but refined modern painting that expresses itself with aggressiveness and courage, a fascinating painting that can still reserve interesting surprises for the future. All this makes Fumagalli one of the most representative and original painters of these years.

He has participated in national and international festivals, he has set up his personal exhibitions in several Italian and foreign cities. His works are included in public and private collections and in contemporary art catalogs.

Artist’s Themes

The painting by Paolo Fumagalli is strong and essential at the same time.

The peculiarity of Paolo Fumagalli’s technique is the use of a particular breathable paper, resistant to tears and pulls, on acrylic colors with different densities. After drying, the colors shine through the paper, obtaining emulsions and chromatic hints. Sometimes, fine sand is added on the canvas. In the end, shapes are outlined with charcoal pencil, lending a final solidity to the painting.
